The Brush Method is a framework that makes brush playing accessible and understandable. Developed by Anthony Stanislavski, it is based on 3 foundations:

  1. Lateral movement

Learn how to utilise the sounds only brushes can create. We do this using the “train tracks”.

  2. Four core techniques
Learn the 4 building blocks of simple and logical movement.

  3. Improvisational cells
Learn how to adapt stick vocabulary to brushes.

Meet Anthony Stanislavski

Hi, I'm Anthony—professional drummer, educator, and author of four books. I’m based in Melbourne, Australia and teach my method for brushes to students from around the world.

I joined the Australian Army Band when I was 18 and started teaching soon after. Throughout my time as an educator I have been passionate about finding the best resources for my students to learn from. But I often struggled to find exactly what I wanted to teach, so I began creating my own materials. For the past 5 years, I have taken a deep dive into the world of brushes and have developed a step-by-step method for teaching what many consider a dying art form.

Students tend to describe my approach as:

  • Easy to follow, without being dumbed down

  • Structured, without feeling rigid

  • Encouraging, without lowering the standard

My aim is to bring deep expertise while staying approachable—meeting you where you are and helping you get fluent with brushes.

If you’ve ever felt like brushes were confusing, out of reach, or something you were supposed to “just pick up over time”—The Brush Method is for you.

You’ll learn how to move, how to think, and how to apply brushes in real musical situations—so you’re not just practicing patterns, you’re actually making music.
